Movie Review: Kuroshitsuji (Live Action)

Kuroshitsuji (also known as Black Butler) is a film adapted from the popular manga series by Yana Toboso in 2013.  Directed by Kotaro Otani and Keiichi Sato, this film released at January 18, 2014. This film has action-fantasy genre.

Synopsis:

Set in the year 2020, Shiori Genpo (Ayame Gouriki) runs the large corporation Funtom. Shiori is also a descendant of prestigious noble family Phantomhive of  England. As a descendant of the noble family Phantomhive, Shiori solves difficult cases which are ordered by the queen.

In order to take revenge, Shiori makes a deal with a devil named Sebastian (Hiro Mizushima). Their deal involves Butler Sebastian protecting Shiori until her revenge is fulfilled and then Sebastian will consume Shiori's spirit.

As one of Kuroshitsuji fans, I feel disappointed with this film. This film is very different from the manga version. The most striking difference is the main character. The main character din the manga version, Ciel, is a boy but in the movie version, the main character is a girl named Shiori. The setting in the manga version that occurred in the 19th century in England was changed to 2020 in Japan. The plot is also different from the manga version. Even though I am disappointed with the change of movie version, this film has a good plot and great actors.
