The
Dangerous of Consuming Junk Food Excessively
Junk food is a food that
has low nutritional value, typically produced in the form of packaged snacks
needing little or no preparation. Generally, junk food is
filled by a range of fast foods, such as fried chicken, hamburgers, pizza,
fried potatoes, and others. However, consuming fast food excessively lead to a
variety of dangerous risks, such as diabetes, heart disease, and digestive
problems.
One of the main
factors that cause diabetes is due to an unhealthy diet, which is because the
food we consume is junk food. When the body absorbs nutrient intake from
healthy food, it means that the body gets a supply of glucose which helps
maintain insulin sensitivity. Whereas when the body absorbs junk food intake,
this can cause excessive stress on the body's metabolism which affects the
body's ability to use insulin properly. Because junk food does not have fiber
content, direct consumption produces a surge in sugar levels. Furthermore,
consuming junk food causes obesity, one of the main reasons for insulin
resistance and the development of diabetes.
The content in Junk
food is full of saturated fat and trans fat which directly increases bad
cholesterol (LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, which can contribute to
plaque formation and heart disease. In addition, consuming junk food can cause
a sudden increase in blood sugar. junk food damages the layers of blood vessels
that cause chronic inflammation. This inflammation causes bad cholesterol to
stick to the walls of the arteries and block the flow of blood to the heart, so
that a heart attack can happen anytime. Fat from junk food can accumulate in
the body over a period of time that can cause weight gain. In conditions of
increasing body weight, the risk of having a heart attack will be higher.
For junk food
addicts, they will be at greater risk of digestive disorders such as
gastroesophageal reflux (GERD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). As we know
that junk food contains more calories than nutritional value. When we consume
junk food fried, the oil content will be stored in the lining of the stomach.
This can increase acid production. Then the spices in it can irritate the
stomach lining, which can worsen the risk of GERD and digestive disorders. Lack
of fiber in the content of junk food can inhibit digestion, increase problems
such as constipation and hemorrhoids.
The conclusion is
it is true that junk food is cheap and available everywhere. However, it has a
harmful effect on our health, not only diabetes, but also an increased risk of
heart disease, and problems with the digestive system. It's okay to consume
junk food, as long as you pay attention to the levels and quantities, and also
balance it with nutritious foods.
