An
upgrade animation from 2-dimension into 3-dimension
by : Siti Nur Qomariyah
In comparison with the
former 2-dimensional animation film, today’s animation is more lifelike with
3-dimensional animation. 3-dimensional is an upgrade in animation technology
that comes after 2-dimension. 3-dimension is the way of creating cartoon
characters are almost as a physical object that is completely made on computer
(Syahfitri. 2011). Different from 3-dimension, Hendrianto (2017) says that animation
with 2-dimension is totally drawn and it is a traditional method. Therefore,
3-dimensional animation requires more complex shaping process that certainly
produces more realistic characters and becomes more expensive than
2-dimensional animation.
3-dimension and
2-dimension have different shape. They both are created by different method.
3-dimensional animation has three measurements that could be seen from the
length, height, and even from width that is well-known as a ‘solid’ shape
(Sandi7. 2015). Lets we compare with
2-dimensional animation that has a flat shape which only has length and height
measurements[1]. In
contrast, if we could see the object more realistic than a drawing on paper, it
is 3-dimension. So, 3-dimension is represented in all three dimensions (height,
width and depth) and looked almost similar with physical object.
In addition, 3-dimensional animation has its character
appearance that is more realistic than 2-dimension. Due to 3-dimensional
animation is totally created on computer, it will be easier to animate a 3-d
scene because you will just simply moving and manipulating the object, camera
and light (Acantor. 2017). 3-dimension
is supported by the concept of 3-dimension itself that has a shape,
volume, and space. As a result it can be moved into three directions, right-left
(X), up-down (Y), and front-back (Z)[2].
By knowing the pros of 3-dimensional animation concept appearances,
we can sum up that those are the concepts to make 3-dimension is more
realistic than 2-dimension.
Other parts of 3-dimensional animation is that more
expensive than 2-dimensional animation. Rendering 3-dimensional animation is
faster than 2-dimensional animation that
can be reused without redraw a new frame (Hakase. 2014). The characters
will be easier to be modeled. The animation will be looked more interesting
using various effects, shadows and lighting. Of course, it will be more
expensive than 2-dimension.
Animation is animation.
Both 2-d and 3-d need skills to rise it on screen as realistic as possible.
Animation is not the art of of creating image move, but creating image
movement.[3]
So, it should be the combination of art, technology, skill and creativity that
get together and produce an animation
that is loved by everyone today. The upgrade animation from 2-dimension into
3-dimension of course will provide you easier
and more complete way of producing animation film.
